Overall Gameplay (6.5 / 13 points)

Comments: Small, cute, simple. All great things to shoot for in a game jam! Unfortunately, this one was so simple that I found myself becoming a tad bored pretty quickly after starting. It's a very basic avoidance game that doesn't introduce any twists at any point, nor does it appear to scale in difficulty the further you make it. Granted, difficulty scaling isn't something easily accomplished in an avoidance game without creating inescapable situations, and this game went great lengths to prevent inescapable situations (very much appreciated, by the way!). I liked the idea of allowing the score to run up faster when the player was closer to the right side of the screen, but this was executed very strangely and inconsistently. Sometimes the others cars change speed, sometimes they don't - and the road/background feel like they have minds of their own. Overall I didn't find this mechanic to be very intuitive; it just served to confuse me throughout my playthrough.

Theme Inclusion (5 / 6 points)

Comments: I'm okay with the use of theme here - the game was clearly designed around the theme even if the mechanics weren't especially unique.

Overall Presentation (7 / 10 points)

Comments: There were a lot of odd design choices here regarding background and perspective. The road was drawn as if the game was to be played from a top-down perspective, so I initially expected each vehicle's hitbox to fill up its sprite. But the vehicles were drawn from an extreme side angle, and that's clearly how the hitboxes were based. I never quite figured out how exactly the hitboxes were situated, and it detracted from the experience a bit. Another design choice that I'd challenge is the choice to make the road/background move at an independent pace from the other cars. Watching the road suddenly become faster while the cars kept their pace was very disorienting, and contributed to my confusion that I outlined in the Overall Gameplay section. SFX/BGM was nice! Also appreciated the presence of toggle buttons for the audio, even if they didn't function quite right. The presence of menus and whatnot is rare to see in a jam game.

Final comments: This entry was careful not to bite off more than it could chew, but in some ways I wish it had! The core gameplay was polished and fun, but I was hoping for some kind of a unique twist to keep me engaged down the stretch.
