Comments: I think it's really easy to put together a really bad board game for a jam - this is certainly not a bad board game. I was impressed with the variety of card effects and strategies available to the player - I could either spread out, focus on towers, or push tokens off the other side - not to mention the moves I could make to deny points for my opponent. It was also nice being able to play against an AI that was clearly at least not dumb. It took me about a full game to get comfortable with how to play and to figure out what exactly I needed to do. But after that it seemed like I could pretty easily win every game I played no matter the decks. Prioritizing cards that added tokens to the board usually felt like the best move. Moving first felt like a dramatic advantage, since you always score points having played an extra turn's worth of cards - I could just snipe the middle tower instantly and make it almost impossible for my opponent to ever score points from it, for example. I think balancing this out in some way would've made the game a bit more challenging. I really wish the other two decks were implemented! Being able to play two decks already granted the game some quality replay value, but having the full set of four decks would've allowed me to play around with a lot of different matchups, and it probably would've kept me entertained for a lot longer.
Theme Inclusion (3 / 6 points)
Comments: I like the connection to "elements" here - I just have a hard time awarding full points when said connection is only halfway developed.
Overall Presentation (6.5 / 10 points)
- General Presentation: 3/4
- Quality of Graphics: 2.5/4
- Quality of Audio: 1/2
Comments: The interfaces did the job, although I wish that some visual, in-game introduction to the rules was provided rather than just a readme. It would've really smoothed out the process of figuring out how to play and improved the overall experience. The game looked good overall - it was just so small! The tiny window forced the graphics to also be tiny, and I sometimes had to strain my eyes to see exactly how tall a stack of tokens was. I also would've liked a little more detail to the grass/castles. The smooth animations and card motions were a great addition and added a feeling of polish. Music was fine, but some sound effects would've been great!
Final comments: I appreciated the room for strategy in this game. It was clearly built for four decks though, so I was really missing them!
