Kitty Chaos by Bentley

Time Played: about 7 minutes

Overall Gameplay (4 / 13 points)

Comments: This was certainly an interesting entry... if not a little cruel! Picking up the controls was fairly easy, but I found that there was little reason to use any attack other than the double-tap rolls. They could cover an extreme area while the other attacks had such tiny hitboxes... and by all indications every attack was a one-hit kill. Having an invulnerable player character was an interesting choice - one that I thought made it a lot harder to be engaged in this game. Along with the impossibly difficult target of one thousand kills, I felt little reason to trudge along with the extremely repetitive gameplay loop. Getting myself stuck in the corner of the map where I was endlessly beaten down by a gang of dozens of kitties with no escape route was the death knell for my playthrough and I decided to call it quits after about 200 kills.

Theme Inclusion (0 / 6 points)

Comments: It doesn't seem like the theme was a consideration for this entry at all.

Overall Presentation (4.5 / 10 points)

Comments: There wasn't much going on with the arena tiles - they were just solid gray. The background wasn't too interesting either - the animated wind/leaves were cool but didn't really compliment anything else in the game and felt extremely oversized. Nice ninja-kitty sprites though! In-game messaging was nonexistent, other than the ultra-barebones UI reminding me of just how much longer I had to go to get to the end. I enjoyed the background music and sound effects!

Final comments: I wish I could've seen the "game over" sequence (if there was one), but the unpolished, monotonous gameplay loop demanded that I quit before I could get to it. All in all it's a good effort! There were glimmers of creativity in the core design of the game, the game just needed more time in the oven for those glimmers to shine.
