Goat Busters by Richerama
Time Played: about 7 minutes
Overall Gameplay (2.5 / 13 points)
- Player Experience: 2/10
- Mechanical Polish: 0.5/3
Comments: I feel like I've done my due diligence with this game - no matter what I do, I cannot seem to capture any goats. The tutorial works fine for me - I can capture the goat with ease every time, but on the first level the little capture balls roll harmlessly past the two goats. My laser also seems to be useless at anything other than destroying stuff. Hitting the goats with my laser makes them do a little jump and get angry at me but they remain immune to my capture ball things. I have no idea what to do to progress.
Theme Inclusion (6 / 6 points)
Comments: I'm sold on the theme usage in this game!
Overall Presentation (10 / 10 points)
- General Presentation: 4/4
- Quality of Graphics: 4/4
- Quality of Audio: 2/2
Comments: Perfect marks for presentation - the graphics look crisp and professional, the interfaces and dialogue are well done, and the tutorial is excellent. I'd go as far as saying that this game is the gold standard for how introductions should be done in jam games - a clear and natural explanation of the plot, and a step-by-step tutorial that interactively shows you the controls and game mechanics. Every other developer should take notes. Audio and sound effects were great too. Even though I could only see the first level, there's nothing here that could reasonably be improved.
Final comments: Wow it's a shame that I couldn't experience what I believe this game had to offer. The concept looks and feels like solid gold, even if it's not clear to me what purpose the laser serves. I wonder if what was holding me up was a bug, or incomplete mechanics, or if I was just missing something dead simple.
